Central
Air Conditioning Maintenance is even More Important Now due to the current phaseout of R-22
refrigerant and minimum efficiency standards mandated by the EPA. As of
January 1st, 2010, all new air conditioning equipment is required to
use non-ozone-depleting refrigerant
R410A, and must meet the minimum efficiency standard of at least 13
SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) in effect since 2006. Older
inefficient systems using the old R-22 refrigerant can still be
serviced until R-22 is completely phased out however R-22 is expected to
steadily increase in price, and replacing these units now require
replacing the indoor coil and flushing or replacing the refrigerant
tubing as well, increasing the cost of replacing your system. By having your air
conditioner serviced annually you can protect yourself from the
potentially higher future costs of servicing an air conditioner or heat
pump that uses R-22.

Federal Tax Credit Up To $1500 
for High Efficiency Heating & Cooling
Models
On February 17, 2009, President Obama made
important changes to the
homeowner tax credits for specified energy-efficient home improvements,
which includes qualified heating and cooling products. Two of the more
significant revisions to this include the extension of the tax credit
through 2010 and the increase of the total available tax credit from
10% to 30%. See below for a full listing of qualified Rheem products.
Homeowners who purchase a qualified Rheem
heating or cooling product
between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 are now eligible for a
tax credit equal to 30% of the full purchase and installation price
with a cap of $1,500.
